(3 minutes read-time, plus this sentence, which is probably going to be 10 more seconds, except if this sentence never stops, which would make it even longer. Maybe now I would need to finish this section so that you can start reading, but Oh, wait, you already started reading […]. Ok I’ll stop…)
Holy fucking shit. I can’t believe I’m writing a blog article, like in 2007.
I used to play that game called “Toon-Life”, pretty much like the game “Habbo”, but even cheaper, where you had your Toon and could talk with others.
You could add a description to your toon. I wrote a lot about life and all, and sometimes I had people coming over to me in game to talk with me and to tell me they read regularly my toon profile because they liked what I wrote.
Maybe I can apply the same thing here, only, in this case, I’ll try to keep it about the 3d printing project ;).
I wanted to share my progress on this HevORT project with the world. And maybe I can even share feedback for people also willing to build this thing. Of course, the HevORT Discord is also an amazing platform to learn, the only problem being that the information on Discord is rather “randomly scatered”. Unless, like me, you read through every single channel on the entire Discord on your free time. In this case, congratulations ! You are a certified Nerd®, which you should already be, or you wouldn’t be reading a blog article from a guy building his own open source 3d printing project.
Now, I want the perfect 3d printer. But what do I call the perfect 3d Printer ?
The perfect 3d printer is basically the one that responds the best to all my needs. And that is future proof.
What are my needs ? I need :
- AN OPEN-SOURCE BASED PLATFORM THAT ALLOWS ME TO BE 100% FREE ON EVERYTHING, LIKE MAINTENANCE & CONTROL BUT ALSO UPGRADE AND CUSTOMIZATION (HELLO BAMBULAB :))))))) )
- A stable core-XY platform
- A rigid platform
- A bigger printing area (rn I only have 225*220mm ish)
- A very high performance 3d printer
- A printer that is able to print technical filaments without gifting me unwanted gifts (like ***cer for example, just to name one)
- That is to say a printer that can provide higher bed and nozzle temperature
- That is to say a printer that has better cooling capabilities
- That is to say a printer that I can enclose and in which I can heat-up the enclosure
- Also one that I can add a custom ventilation system to (yeah the heated enclosure & filtered-ventilation-to-the-outside system is going to be a later-me problem)
- That is to say one that I can add custom HT belts and parts to
- a future proof platform, that is to say one that I can upgrade easily later on…
- and also one that I can tinker with, i.e. :
- Adding a tool-changer
- Adding a filament-scale tool (I already own one I did myself)
- Adding a filament sensor
- Adding an anti-tangle system (I have some ideas I need to develop on this, #side-project-idea-number 1541654
- Bonus, but maybe the most important one : one that has an amazing and active community
That’s already a little something. So, the perfect printer doesn’t exist …
YET.
But it will. That’s my project and I’m looking forward to sharing it with you.
Looking forward to hearing from you guys.
